(Cricket news) After captaining India in all 3 formats for almost 6 years, Virat Kohli has decided to step down as the T20I captain to manage his workload. The decision has come just days after the rumours started to catch fire.
After taking over as captain from MS Dhoni in 2016, Virat Kohli has captained India for 45 T20Is out of which he has won 27. Kohli has won a T20I series in all the SENA countries as a captain. The skipper also led India to six consecutive T20I series wins. Individually, Virat has scored 1421 runs with the willow in his term as a captain of the side.

Virat Kohli will continue to play for the side as a batsman which is good news for all Indian fans. Rohit Sharma is the obvious candidate to become the captain and there couldn't be any better man to do it. His record as the captain of Mumbai Indians speaks volumes of his leadership skills.
What this does mean is that Virat Kohli as a leader can concentrate fully on the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. There is no doubt that the Test team needs him as a captain more than the T20I team does, therefore the decision has come at the right time. Before all that, the T20 World Cup will be the Indian captain's priority and winning the silverware will be the perfect way to end his term as a skipper.
