(Football news) Tammy Abraham joins AS Roma from Chelsea for 40 million pounds in a move that sees the merry go round of transfers complete, with Chelsea signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter and Inter buying Edin Dzeko from AS Roma. Tammy Abraham, having played all his life for the blues, scored 21 goals in 58 appearances for them but his time at Chelsea was mostly spent on loan as he played for Bristol, Swansea and Aston Villa. During his loan spells at Bristol and Aston Villa he became the EFL Championship’s top scorer.
Despite having a terrific goal scoring pedigree, Thomas Tuchel wasn't really convinced with him. He enjoyed a fine goal scoring season under Frank Lampard's management but since the appointment of Tuchel he fell out of favour. The move to AS Roma couldn’t have been at a better time as he will be working with the ‘special one’ Jose Mourinho and also the fact that he’s only 23 which gives him time to become a top class striker.

Jose Mourinho and Tiago Pinto (Director of football) were quick to replace their talisman Edin Dzeko with someone who has similar skills, attributes and is 10 years younger to him, Jose Mourinho was quick to appreciate the board to get a serial goal scorer in at such a short notice. Tammy Abraham is going to flourish in a Jose Mourinho system as he’ll probably play a formation of 4-2-3-1 with Tammy being the false 9 and also the fact that he is surrounded by creative players like Mkhitaryan, Zaniolo and Lorenzo Pellegrini will only mean that he’ll score more goals.
AS Roma are a team on a mission as they want to mount a unlikely challenge for the Scudetto, they have shown their statement of intent by appointing the ‘chosen one’ and backing him properly in the transfer window. This season, they have already bought Rui Patricio and Eldor Shomurodov to bolster their side even more but the signing which actually makes a statement in the Serie A is Tammy Abraham. Chelsea have added a buy back clause in his contract which gives us an indication on how hesitant they were to sell him but Tammy Abraham wanted to try out a different venture in a different league. Time will tell us if Tammy Abraham flourishes under the Jose Mourinho regime and makes Chelsea regret the decision to let him go.
