Real Madrid bid €160 million to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain

(Football news) The Los Blancos have traditionally been the go-to destination for the best players in the world. In Real Madrid’s illustrious history, the likes of Alfredo di Stefano, Ferenc Puskas, Hugo Sanchez, Emilio Butragueno, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paco Gento, Zinedine Zidane, Pirri, Raul and many more have worn the iconic white jersey of arguably the biggest football club on the planet. For many, it’s the “dream” destination, which includes France’s 22 year old superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Since he was a child, a wide eyed Kylian Mbappe would watch Real Madrid’s ‘galacticos’ at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu stadium and wished to play in front of the Madridistas, just like his heroes before him. The “royal” club of Spain, bestowed upon by King Alfonso XIII in 1920 have bid €160 million to bring Mbappe one step closer to realizing his boyhood dream. He came close to joining Real Madrid in 2012, when the then 12 year old was pictured with idol Cristiano Ronaldo. He also almost joined them in 2018, when Mbappe left Monaco to join PSG.

Paris Saint-Germain are reluctant to part with their prized asset, widely considered to be the heir to the title of ‘best player in the world’ once Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi finally decide to hang their boots. However, Mbappe only has a year left in his contract and the Frenchman has reiterated that he will not be renewing with PSG, despite repeated approaches. This means that Mbappe would be able to leave for free unless Paris Saint-Germain accept Real Madrid’s offer this summer and a €160 million bid might test their resolve, if only to lay the groundwork for an improved offer in the coming days.

Mbappe has been Real Madrid’s President Fiorentino Perez’s long term number 1 target and the club have approached the situation strategically. The two clubs enjoy a good relationship and Madrid have been working since over a year to lay the groundwork for a deal of this nature. The Parisians have reluctantly accepted Mbappe’s desire to leave, and have no choice but to open negotiations or else risk losing him for free.

The football industry has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for Spanish clubs. Barcelona’s state of affairs are so dire that they could not register their new players and were forced to let Messi leave. However, Madrid’s financial management has been shrewd to say the least. They have not made any first team additions since September 2019 and with the departure of Raphael Varane and Martin Odegaard for a region of  €40m, the club are now in a position where they can make a serious offer for their brand new ‘galactico’.
