Mick Schumacher expected to stay at Haas for the 2022 season

(Motorsports news) Formula 1 racing team Haas is expected to retain its existing driver line-up into the next season with 22 year old reigning Formula 2 champion Mick Schumacher pairing with Nikita Mazepin.

Mick Schumacher, son of the legendary seven time champion Michael Schumacher, is a member of Ferrari’s driver academy, has regularly outperformed Mazepin and has gone wheel to wheel with title challenger Max Verstappen, especially in Hungary.

Haas has been concentrating on the 2022 car development and is aiming to make big changes to remain competitive amidst the new regulations. In order to increase competitiveness on the track, there has been a major overhaul in Formula 1’s technical rules and Haas are hoping to take advantage of the changes to improve their position from the back of the grid.

Ferrari are closely overseeing Mick Schumacher’s progress at Haas and Team Principal of Ferrari Mattia Binotto has been impressed by the 22 year old’s debut season at the top level. “Mick in his very first year in F1 driving for Haas, I think we said at the start of the season that the objective for him was first no pressure, but to make sure that he is learning,” said Binotto. “So 2021 has to be for him an important year in terms of learning. And I think if we look at that objective he is doing well.

“I think Mick since the start of the season is doing well, he is learning, he is progressing. Obviously a few mistakes, but that's part of the learning process. Overall in terms of balance so far, we can be happy. What’s important for him is to continue developing and progressing in the second half. But I'm confident he can do that.”

Mick Schumacher will undoubtedly hope to one day race for Ferrari, arguably the most iconic Formula 1 team that has ever been and will hope to replicate his fathers career and continue the Schumacher legacy for years to come.
