Manny Pacquiao retires at the age of 42 to pursue further endeavours

(Boxing News) The former 8 division world champion has decided to hang up his boxing gloves so that he can focus on his political career. Pacquiao will be running for the presidential position next March in the Philippines. The announcement comes one month after Pacquiao lost to the WBA ‘Super World’ Welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas on 21st August.

The Filipino superstar was commonly known as ‘pac-man’ for his explosive boxing style, he has fought a number of world class fighters during his illustrious career and has enjoyed unmatched success with his ability to stride through different weight classes and continuing to win. The Pac man's decision to retire ends his 26 year professional boxing career which started in 1995 and fought many superstars such as Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather, Juan Manuel Marquez etc. Pacquiao finishes his boxing career with a career record of 62 wins, 8 losses, 2 draws, 39 wins by KO in 72 professional boxing matches. 

Pac Man bows out as the greatest fighter from Asia and one of the legends in the sport of boxing. His net worth from boxing is $220 million dollars and his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2015 generated the most pay per view buys. Now he will run for President in Philippines as he has served as a senator for the ruling party PDP Laban Party since 2016.

"My boxing career? My boxing career is already over. It's done because I've been boxing for a long time and my family says that it is enough. I just continued [to box] because I'm passionate about this sport.

“I will just support other boxers for us to have a champion again. I am a fighter, and I will always be a fighter inside and outside the ring. I am accepting your nomination as candidate for president of the Republic of the Philippines," said Pacquiao in a speech made over live-stream.
