Is Romelu Lukaku the final piece of Thomas Tuchel’s puzzle at Chelsea?

(Football news) Chelsea won the UEFA Champions League and played the F.A Cup final last season. It is safe to say that Thomas Tuchel has had quite an impact at Stamford Bridge since taking over from Frank Lampard. Chelsea played some beautiful football in the 2nd half of last season but lacked a proper goal scoring striker in their squad.

This has been a problem since Diego Costa's departure. The blues have had several strikers such as Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham but none of them have provided a long term fix. Timo Werner did seem to be the solution when he came into the picture but despite starting for Chelsea week in week out, he isn't a poacher by any means.

Chelsea scored only 58 goals last season which was the least amongst the top 7 clubs. Creating chances was never a problem under Tuchel but lack of a pure number 9 is what caused the goal droughts. Werner's lack of finishing ability was clearly highlighted when he started missing absolute sitters which any average goalscorer would thrive on.

Romelu Lukaku is the perfect candidate for Chelsea. The Belgian has scored 47 goals in his two seasons with Inter Milan in the Serie A. With Lukaku leading the attack and the likes of Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech running off him, Chelsea have become a formidable side. Lukaku has league experience with 113 Premier League goals to his name.

Lukaku's arrival takes a massive weight off Werner's shoulders. With the Belgian almost guaranteeing 20 plus goals a season, Werner can play second fiddle which is just what could bring the best out of him. Lukaku is likely to make his 2nd Chelsea debut against Arsenal on Sunday.
