Delhi Capitals triumphed Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets in the second game of the IPL 2021 season on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium.
Chasing a target of 189 runs, Delhi sealed the game with eight balls remaining. DC reached 190/3 in 18.4 overs, as their skipper Rishabh Pant smashed the winning four.
Openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan powered DC to a solid start during the chase with a half-century each. Shaw hit 72 off 38 balls featuring 9 fours and 3 sixes. While, Dhawan smashed 85 in 54 balls, packed with 10 fours and 2 sixes. The duo's powerful opening stand set up the tone for Delhi, while Pant and Shimron Hetmyer wrapped up the proceedings in the 19th over.
For CSK , Shardul Thakur proved to be the most expensive bowler conceding 53 runs in his 3.4 overs with two wickets, while Dwayne Bravo finished his spell at 1/28.
The Super Kings ended their innings at 188/7 after 20 overs. Suresh Raina was the highest scorer for the side with a half-century. He smashed 54 off 36 balls, consisting of 3 fours and 4 sixes. Moeen Ali too contributed a quickfire 36 off 24 balls. MS Dhoni disappointed his fans in a much awaited comeback game with a two-ball duck. However, Sam Curran (34 off 15) and Ravindra Jadeja (26 off 17) gave a decent finish to their innings.
Chris Woakes and Avesh Khan looked in good form for DC, claiming two wickets each and finishing their day with 2/18 and 2/33 respectively. Meanwhile, R Ashwin and Tom Curran registered a wicket each.
