Indian women’s hockey team loses 4-1 to Great Britain in Pool A at the Tokyo Olympics

(Hockey news) Olympic 2021 Live Update: Rani Rampal led Indian women’s hockey team lost their third consecutive match in Pool A at the Tokyo Olympics. In what can be considered the worst possible start, India trailed after just 72 seconds when Hannah Martin scored and led Great Britain 1-0 at the end of the first quarter. India’s wastefulness in front of goal meant they failed two convert two penalty corners, resulting in Hannah Martin scoring once again in the second quarter to give her side a 2-0 lead.

India fought back and Sharmila Devi scored from Gurjit Kaur’s powerful penalty corner to reduce the deficit by half. However, their wastefulness continued as they wasted more penalty corners and gave Britain a chance to counter-attack. In the third quarter, Sushila was off the field after getting a green card from the referee and wasted their 7th penalty corner of their game at that stage. To make matters worse, Vandana also received a green card and had to leave the field, resulting in Great Britain taking advantage of the situation to score their third goal through Lily Owsley. A penalty spot conversion by Grace Balsdon further increased Great Britain’s lead by three to finish the match at the score of 4-1.
