Indian paddler Sharath Kamal progresses to third round after win against Portugal’s Tiago Apolonia

(Table Tennis news) Olympic 2021 Live Updates: Sharath Kamal progressed into the third round of table tennis men’s singles with a 4-2 (2-11 11-8 11-5 9-11 11-6 11-9) over Tiago Apolonia. Despite losing the first game 2-11, Kamal fought back with grit and determination to win the next two rounds. However, Apolonia did not give up without a fight and levelled the match in the fourth round with a score of 9-11.

Sharath’s coach Saumadeep Roy called for a timeout when the scores were tied 4-4 in the fifth set, which worked in the Indian’s favor as the veteran Indian paddler went on to lead 8-5, winning the fifth set and making it 3-2.

Representing India for the fourth time in the Olympic Games, 20th seed Sharath Kamal will now face reigning Olympic and World Champion Ma Long of China.
