Indian archer Deepika Kumari beats Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez of USA 6-4 to progress into 1/8 Eliminations round

(Archery news) Olympic 2021 Live Update: It was a closely contested and nerve racking round of 16 elimination between world number 1 Deepika Kumari and Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez with little to separate the two. Deepika began on the backfoot, losing the first set 25-26 but fought back in the second set 28-25 to level the contest at 2-2. She maintained her momentum to win the third set 27-25 but lost the fourth set 24-25 to Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez. Just when a dramatic comeback for the 18 year old American was looking on the cards, Deepika showed exactly why she is one of the best archers in the world by winning the fifth set 26-25 to progress into the 1/8 Elimination round.

Earlier today, Deepika began her women’s individual event on a dominant note with a commanding straight sets 6-0 (26-23, 26-23, 27-24) victory over Karma of Bhutan. All hopes would be on Deepika Kumari now to win a medal in archery at the Tokyo Olympics and she certainly has the talent to make that dream a reality.
