Heat and humidity take its toll as Gurpreet Singh fails to finish Men’s 50 km race walk

(Olympics news) Olympic 2021 Live Update: Race walker Gurpreet Singh endured a disappointing start to his Olympic ambitions as the Indian was forced to drop out of the race as he was cramping due to heat and humidity. Singh was in the 49th position at the halfway point of 25 km with a time of 2:01:54.

Dawid Tomala from Poland finished in first position with an overall time of 3:50:08, Jonathan Hilbert from Germany finished second with a time of 3:50:44 and Evan Dunfee of Canada finished third with a time of 3:50:59. The Women’s 20km walk will be held later today with India’s Bhawna Jat and Priyanka Goswami competing for medals.
