Haryana boxer Deepika defeats reigning World Youth Champion Alfiya Pathan at 4th Youth National Boxing Championships

In boxing news, reigning World Youth Champion Alfiya Pathan was defeated by Deepika at the 4th Youth Men’s and Women’s National Championships at Delhi Public School (DPS) in Sonipat.

Haryana’s Deepika put up a majestic performance at the heavyweight +81kg women’s quarter-finals against Maharashtra’s Alfiya Pathan to win 4-1 in an intense clash. Deepika is now all set to take on Chandigarh’s Mehak Mor in the semi-finals who defeated Rajasthan’s Rishika 5-0 in the quarter-finals.

Gitika, the 2021 Youth World Championships gold medallist and Bishwamitra Chongtham continued their winning form to progress into the last eight. Gitika convincingly defeated Rajasthan’s Yamini Kanwar in women’s 48 kg pre-quarterfinals bout 5-0 while Bishwamitra won against Madhya Pradesh’s Shubham Sahu with Referee Stopping Contest (RSC) in the second round.

The fourth edition of the Youth Men’s and Women’s National championships is the first domestic championship in India after more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition is set to provide a good platform for boxers to showcase their skills ahead of the 2021 ASBC Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Dubai from August 17th to 31st.
