Harshal Patel leading the race for purple cap in first phase of Indian Premier League

(Cricket news) The 14th season of IPL will see its second phase starting from 19th of September.  The top 10 of all time wicket takers are dominated by the spinners as there are only three pacers, Lasith Malinga is on the top with 170 wickets and Amit Mishra will look to overtake him this season as Mishra needs five more wickets to become the leading wicket taker. Only two spinners have managed to win the purple cap, Pragyan Ojha in 2010 and Imran Tahir in 2019. Dwayne Bravo has taken the most wickets in a single season as he won the purple cap in 2013 with 32 wickets.

Harshal Patel: Royal Challengers Bangalore

Harshal is having his best season by picking up 17 wickets in seven matches as he leads the list of wicket takers in the first phase of IPL. He and Andre Russell are the only bowlers to take a five wicket haul so far in this season. Harshal created chaos in the opening game against Mumbai Indians as he took three wickets in the last over while conceding a single run. He will look to break Bravo’s record as there are seven more matches and he needs 15 more wickets. Although he proved to be economical in the beginning, he has leaked the second most runs in the league this season after Shardul Thakur.

Avesh Khan: Delhi Capitals

Avesh Khan is placed second in the list as he has taken 14 wickets from eight matches. He has been bowling well in every match and has leaked minimal runs. He has the ability to trouble the batsman with his pace as well as the length. The T20 format requires sharp bowling and Avesh does have the potential to stop the run scoring. He has bowled 72 dot balls this season and is fourth on the list.

Chris Morris: Rajasthan Royals

Chris Morris is currently third having picked up 14 wickets in seven matches. He had taken fifteen wickets in the 2013 season in sixteen matches and will be able to finish strong this time. He is the most expensive player as he was bought by the team for a price of 16.25 crores. He does have a lot of expectations to fulfil and is so far performing well for the team. He has bowled 63 dot balls this season and bowled 18 dot balls against Kolkata Knight Riders while picking up four wickets.

Rahul Chahar: Mumbai Indians

Rahul Chahar has been one of the most economical bowlers this season as he has not only reduced the run flow but has also picked up wickets. He has 11 scalps from seven games and looks promising as the second phase will test his potential. He cleaned the top four batsmen from the Kolkata Knight Riders which played a major part as Mumbai won the match by 10 runs.

Rashid Khan: Sunrisers Hyderabad

Rashid Khan has been the most economical bowler out of the top five as he has given away only 172 runs while taking 10 wickets. He is one of the top bowlers in the game and has been phenomenal with the bowl although the others have failed to do well. It will be a shame if Sunrisers don’t finish in the top four as Rashid is a player who can trouble any of the batsmen and can defend low totals.
