The Euro 2020 has been an action packed competition already, with shock eliminations, high scoring matches and most importantly, fans back in the stadiums. The emotions are running high after the round of 16 fixtures as you may have read in the football news, but with the quarter-finals just around the corner, we’re here to give you a peek into what you can expect ahead of another set of exciting Euro 2020 fixtures.
Belgium vs Italy
Current world number 1 Belgium may have defeated the defending champions Portugal, but the ‘golden generation’ are currently struggling with injuries. Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard are doubtful against Italy, having suffered injuries in the round of 16 clash. Neither of them have trained in the Belgium camp and doctors are working around the clock to have them ready against Italy. In comparison, Italy is on a high at the moment and are currently unbeaten in 31 games. They will definitely prove to be the toughest competition Belgium have faced so far in the Euro 2020 and it will be a clash that you shouldn’t miss out on.
Switzerland vs Spain
It’s fair to say that Spain will be approaching this fixture cautiously because while it might seem like a mismatch on paper, Switzerland defeated the current world champions France to reach the Euro 2020 quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Spain defeated Croatia, runners up of World Cup 2018 in an action packed 120 minutes which finished with a 5-3 victory for La Roja. Switzerland will be missing their skipper Granit Xhaka due to suspension, Denis Zakaria will replace the Arsenal midfielder and will be hungry to show his qualities while many European clubs are hunting for his signature. While the current Spanish side does not have the oomph of the old, Luis Enrique’s team still features some notable stars who could turn the tide in their favor in an instant. We predict a win for Spain, but it’s football and one thing is for sure that nothing is certain.
Ukraine vs England
Despite being overwhelming favourites in every international tournament, England last made a semi-final appearance in the European Championships back in 1996. Meanwhile, dark horses Ukraine have qualified for the Euros only thrice before and this is their first ever appearance at the knockout stage. In their last seven meetings, England have won four times, drawing twice and losing once and it’s likely that the Three Lions will continue their fine form to reach the semi-finals of the Euro 2020 this time around.
Czech Republic vs Denmark
Nobody would have predicted that Czech Republic and Denmark would have made it to the quarter-finals of the Euro 2020, but here we are and Baku Olympic stadium will witness one of those two sides progress to the semi-finals of the tournament. Czech Republic have only made it to the knockout rounds twice previously, as runners up in 1996 and semi-finalists in 2004. Meanwhile, Denmark are making their eighth appearance in the competition, having failed to qualify in 2016 the Danes have made a strong comeback this year. This evenly contested match has ended with two wins for Denmark and three wins for Czech Republic and seven draws in their last twelve meetings. Despite Czech Republic causing one of the many upsets by defeating the Netherlands, we predict Denmark to go through.
