(Motorsport news) It was 36 years ago that the Dutch Grand Prix took place at Zandvoort and Max Verstappen will return to his ‘home’ track as his battle with Lewis Hamilton heats up with only three points separating the two drivers. The British racing driver is currently on 202.5 points while Verstappen is on 199.5. In the Constructors Championship, Mercedes are currently placed at 310.5 points while Red Bull trail closely behind at 303.5.
It will be a special occasion for Verstappen as he races in front of a home crowd for the first time in his career. The Dutch racing driver will undoubtedly look to finish first and close the gap with Mercedes and Hamilton. The seven time World Champion will receive a feisty reception at Netherlands, just like at Hungary and Belgium where he was booed because of the clash between the pair at Silverstone.
Located near Amsterdam, Zandvoort is a fast, tight and technical track, a favourite amongst racing drivers. However, there is a notable addition this time around as the last corner of the circuit inclines around the final bend, similar to the American ‘Oval’ tracks. Zandvoort’s banking is twice as steep as the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It’s predicted that while the race itself may have few overtakes, the qualification should see some extremely fast laps with marginal room for error.
