Does Casemiro fit into Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield plans for Real Madrid?

(Football news) Casemiro has been at the heart of Real Madrid for over 5 years now. Along with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, the Brazilian has formed a formidable trio. The three has been on the downscale for the past season because of the emergence of Fede Valverde and now with the addition of Eduardo Camavinga.

Under Zinedine Zidane, Casemiro played the proper defensive holding midfielder role. He would cover spaces and protect the backline during counter attacks. He would also occasionally make runs into the box and use his aerial ability mainly when the team needed to score.

With Carlo Ancelotti in-charge,  that type of role isn't needed. Ancelotti has always had holding midfielders who are good on the ball like Pirlo and Xabi Alonso. Even in 2014/15, the Italian manager used Kroos and Modric as holding midfielders. He did the same thing in Real Madrid's loss against Espanyol which meant that Los Blancos struggled defensively.

So far this season, Casemiro's lack of ability on the ball has been exposed a few too many times. Ancelotti's tactics include fluid passes and quick transitions which isn't exactly Casemiro's forte. It's very clear that Ancelotti wants a midfielder who can play his part in build up by making forward passes. This could mean that Casemiro would eventually fall out of favour and Ancelotti would prefer to play Eduardo Camavinga or Toni Kroos in that role. There is a possibility that Ancelotti might change his tactics to accommodate Casemiro. That looks very unlikely as of now.

Casemiro will now play some important International matches for Brazil. The period after the international break will be very crucial for Real Madrid and will determine how Carlo Ancelotti will use the midfielder.
