Indian superwomen hand Australian giants their first defeat of the tournament

Australia’s unbeaten run at Women's Hockey came to an end as the Indians pulled off a major upset in the Tokyo Olympics. They beat the Aussies 1-0 as Gurjit Kaur scored the lone goal in the 2nd quarter at the 22nd minute, it was a penalty shot corner.

The Indian women are through to the semifinals which will be played on 4th of August. This is their third appearance at the Olympic games after Moscow in 1980 and Rio in 2016. They will look to better their best performance which came 41 years ago in the 1980 Moscow Olympics where they finished fourth.

Indian equestrian Fouaad Mirza enters final medal round at the Tokyo Olympics

A top 25 finish was what Fouaad Mirza needed to qualify for the final medal round as he completed the Jumping round of the Equestrian event with eight points and a score of 47.20 to finish in the 25th position and qualify for the Jumping Final. Mirza is the only Indian participating in the event and the very first time India has participated in this event at the Olympic Games.

Dutee Chand finishes 7th, out of contention in women’s 200m sprint

Dutee Chand has failed to reach the semi-finals of the women’s 200m sprint after finishing 7th with a timing of 23.85 seconds in Heat 4 at the National Olympic Stadium. Out of the 7 heats, the top three in each as well as three fastest non-automatic qualifiers progress to the semi-finals.

India's shooting campaign comes to a disappointing end

In the 50M Rifle 3 Position, Indian shooters Aishwary Tomar and Sanjeev Rajput fall out of the final race, bringing the tournament to a close with even more disappointment for the Indian shooting team. In the qualifying rounds, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar placed 21st and Sanjeev Rajput 32nd, respectively. The top-eight teams advance to the final.

With the men's 50m rifle 3 positions being the final shooting event at the Olympics, India's shooting campaign at Tokyo 2020 came to a conclusion.

Kamalpreet finishes 6th in Women’s Discus as rain plays spoilsport

(Athletics news) Olympic 2021 Live Update: Women's Discus Throw Finals were held today as Kamalpreet Kaur finished 6th with her best throw of 63.70m in the Tokyo Olympics. Valarie Allman from USA won the gold with a  throw of 68.98m in her first attempt, Kristin Pudenz from Germany took the Silver medal with a throw of 66.86m in her 5th attempt and Yaime Perez from Cuba grabbed the Bronze medal with a throw of 65.72 on her first attempt. At first, only two throws were recorded as rain interrupted the event. After a while the event continued with the third throw and the top 8 were selected with three more throws. Sandra Perković from Croatia and the double defending Olympic champion finished 4th with a best throw of 65.01 in her third attempt.

Kamalpreet Kaur ended with throws of 61.72m and 63.70m as her second, fourth and sixth throws were fouls. It was an impressive show by the Indian as she came in as a shock contender when she was placed second overall from group A and B. She will certainly gain a lot from Tokyo and will look to come back stronger than ever.
