(Football news) Real Madrid parted ways with manager Zinedine Zidane after a trophyless season. Los Blancos suffered over 60 injuries last season which proved to be a big reason for their failure to win a trophy as they marginally lost the La Liga and the Champions League. Real Madrid appointed former boss Carlo Ancelotti on a 3-year deal ahead of the likes of Antonio Conte and Joachim low.

 Zinedine Zidane in his second spell at Real Madrid relied primarily on his defence to win matches. Madrid became the team that would grind out 1-0 results in games. That system did bring success in 2019/20 but didn't work the following season. Ancelotti throughout his career has always played attacking football. 

While under Zidane Benzema was the only consistent goal scoring outlet, Ancelotti was expected to churn out more goals from other Attackers and Midfielders and in the first game itself he has shown positive signs. In Ancelotti's first spell at Real Madrid Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo scored goals for fun. In Ancelotti's 2 seasons in charge of Real Madrid, the Los Blancos would regularly win matches by more than 3 goals.

In their opening La Liga bout away at Deportivo Alaves Real Madrid achieved a thumping 4-1 victory. The first half was goalless but Real Madrid did assert their authority on the game. The front three of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard looked very sharp. Ancelotti had got them to switch places between themselves to allow their attacking game to be fluid. In the second half that fluidity got results as the trio combined to score the opening goal.

Last season under Zidane scored only 67 goals in La Liga while arch rivals Barcelona who were struggling still managed to score 85. Atletico Madrid also scored 67 but Real Madrid have never been a defensive side. Zidane's tactics may have a lot to do with the players he had to work with because Apart from Benzema there was no other prominent goalscorer at Madrid.

On the flip side Real Madrid did manage to keep 17 clean sheets which was just 1 less than Atletico Madrid. Now under Ancelotti Real Madrid should get back to playing attacking football and be relentless on counters. The disadvantage might be that they will start leaking goals at the back. As long as they continue winning, Madridistas should not have a problem with that.
