(Football news) Brazil won 2-0 against Peru after not playing against Argentina in matchday 7. Brazil were missing out on some key players as the English Premier Clubs decided not to send their players to South America, although it was a depleted Brazilian squad they were rampant in the first half as goals from Everton Ribeiro and Neymar made sure that Brazil maintained their perfect record in the group. After this result, Brazil sat comfortably on top with 24 points having played 8 matches.
Argentina won 3-0 against Bolivia in what was a very emotional night for Messi as he became the top scoring South American footballer over taking the great Pele. The crowd at Buenos Aires were given a spectacle as not only Messi scored a wonderful hattrick but also got to celebrate their Copa America triumph with the fans for the first time. With this result Argentina are placed nicely in the group in second position with 18 points from 8 matches and look more likely to qualify for Qatar next year.

Uruguay continued their good form by winning 1-0 against Ecuador. Uruguay made it difficult on themselves as Gaston Pereira scored in the dying minutes to consolidate their third position in the group. Now Uruguay have 15 points from 9 matches and have a two point lead over Ecuador who have 13 points from 9 matches.
Columbia beat Chile 3-1 to mathematically knock out the Chileans from the World Cup qualification. Columbia were at their dominant best as quickly scored two goals from Miguel Borja in the first 20 minutes almost killed the tie, although Chile equalised Columbia’s new star Luis Diaz put the finishing touches on a dominant victory. With this result, Columbia are on 13 points in fifth position having played 9 matches, Chile on the other hand are languishing in 8th position with 7points.
