Barcelona get back to winning ways while Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid drop points in the La Liga

(Football news) La Liga took a turn in matchweek 7 as Villarreal held table toppers Real Madrid to a goalless draw. Atletico Madrid suffered their first defeat of the season against Deportivo Alaves and FC Barcelona got a much needed 3-0 victory against Levante to get back to winning ways.

Atletico Madrid were beaten 1-0 away from home by Deportivo Alaves. Víctor Laguardia’s 4th minute header was enough to secure their first points of the season. The result was a major upset as Alaves had lost all their games this season and Atlético hadn't lost a single one before the game. Antoine Griezmann again started the game but couldn't make an impact. Griezmann's poor performances will force Diego Simeone to rethink his tactics regarding the Frenchman. Atletico Madrid's play AC Milan in the UCL midweek before hosting Barcelona in the league.

Villarreal held Real Madrid to a goalless draw at the Santiago Bernabeu. Villarreal would've walked away with all three points if it wasn't for a few outstanding saves by Thibaut Courtois. Real Madrid failed to break Unai Emery's resilient side. Despite playing away from home, Villarreal had 52 percent possession and as many shots on target by Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti's men were poor and lacked the cutting edge in the middle of the park. Casemiro has been one of the best defensive midfielders for the past two seasons but Ancelotti's tactics are bringing out his lack of ability on the ball. Los Blancos failed to win 2nd balls and hence couldn't keep hold of the ball for large portions. Madrid's pressing was completely off which allowed Villarreal to play out from the back without any trouble Real Madrid face FC Sheriff in the UCL before traveling to Espanyol on the weekend.

After failing to win 3 games in a row, FC Barcelona put on a show against Levante to win 3-0. The Blaugrana had 71 percent possession and 12 shots on target. Memphis Depay broke the deadlock by scoring a spot kick which he won and new signing Luuk De Jong scored his first Barcelona goal minutes later. Ansu Fati returned from his long term injury after over 9 months and scored the 3rd goal. FC Barcelona have picked a good time to get back to winning ways as their next two games are away against Benfica and Atlético Madrid.
