Atanu Das crashes out of Tokyo Olympics after losing pre-qualifier to Takaharu Furukawa 6-4

(Archery news) Olympic 2021 Live Update: In a game of fine margins, Indian archer Atanu Das was knocked out of the men’s individual pre-qualifier by Japan’s Takaharu Furukawa. Despite very little to separate the two archers, Furukawa won the first set 27-25 after Atanu Das scored a 9 followed by two 8s. The Japanese archer then led after the second set ended up in a tie (28 each) resulting in a score of 3-1. Atanu Das fought back in the third set, winning it 28-27 to level the scoring at 3-3 while the fourth set tied again at 28 each for the points to be split 4-4. What followed was a tight finish between the two archers but Takaharu Furukawa emerged victorious by extremely fine margins as he went on to progress into the quarter-finals by a score of 6-4.

With this result, the Indian archery contingent have now been knocked out of the Tokyo Olympics and will have to wait until Paris 2024 to win an Olympic medal in archery.
