(Football news) Developed through the São Paulo youth system, 19 year old Marquinhos has been signed by Arsenal, subject to the completion of regulatory processes. The player made his first team debut for the Brazilian club as an 18 year old, going on to make 33 first team appearances and being part of the team that won the Compeonato Paulista in 2021.
The forward has represented Brazil in the Under-16 and U-17 levels and will travel to London from Brazil to join his teammates in pre-season training. In an interview to Arsenal’s website, technical director Edu said “We’re delighted to have completed the transfer with Sao Paulo, as Marquinhos was a player we had been watching for a while. At 19, he is still very young, so he is a player for the future. We look forward to Marquinhos now joining us for pre-season, making his new home, and continuing to grow and develop with us.”
The deal is reportedly worth €3.5 million and Marquinhos has apparently rejected multiple contract extensions by São Paulo in order to move to Arsenal. The left footed forward can also play as a winger and is expected to play a fringe role in his first season at the Emirates while he acclimatises to the rigours of the Premier League.
