Arsenal goalkeeper on the verge on joining EPL side on loan

Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal is allegedly interested in joining Nottingham Forest on a loan this summer

(Football news) The 26-year-old’s prolonged absence after a month-long international assignment in Germany has prevented him from playing in the first half of the Gunners’ preseason schedule.

Ramsdale was a member of the England team that was vying for the title of Euro 2024. However, Gareth Southgate’s team lost to Spain in the championship match on July 14 and were defeated at the last hurdle.

Jordan Pickford is England’s first-choice goalkeeper after failing to disappoint the Three Lions in a major tournament thus far. As a result, Arsenal’s stopper was benchwarmer for the whole of the campaign.

On June 7, Ramsdale made his only appearance of the international window when a surprise one-goal victory over a lowly-ranked Icelandic team occurred at Wembley in a friendly match.

Playing just six matches in the Premier League last season, Ramsdale was emphatically demoted to second-choice keeper at the Emirates, with David Raya taking the spot in between the sticks.

With the Spaniard having now completed a permanent switch from Brentford, 26-year-old Ramsdale will have to move elsewhere in order for regular first-team action.

Nottingham Forest could be the top-flight outfit to hand the England international the honour of being a first-choice shot-stopper.

The report claims that the Tricky Trees wish to secure the services of Ramsdale on loan for the 2024-25 season, with a permanent swoop for the player appearing difficult currently.

It is understood that the Gunners are demanding £50m for the former Sheffield United man, a fee that Forest are unable to fork out on a keeper at this stage.

Plenty of moving parts

It is believed that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are willing to wait until the final moments of the window, hoping that Ramsdale will become available on a temporary deal.

A waiting game could be a dangerous one for Forest, though, with fellow Premier League sides Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth and Southampton also in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements this summer.

Mikel Arteta has hinted at allowing talented youngster Karl Hein to move out on loan this campaign, meaning that Arsenal would not have not a deputy to Raya should Ramsdale join the Estonian in exiting the Emirates.

With the Gunners targeting the services of Wolves reserve Daniel Bentley, there are plenty of moving parts, and a number of things will need to fall in Forest’s favour in order for them to sign Ramsdale this summer.
