(Football news) Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace 4-1 at the Emirates to go 8 points clear on top of the Premier League. They go into the international break high on confidence even though Manchester City have a game in hand. The Gunners came into the game after a shocking loss to Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League Round of 16. They bounced back well with a dominant performance to continue the momentum in the Premier League. Getting knocked out of the Europa League could well be a blessing in disguise as they can now completely focus on the Premier League.
Arsenal were on the attack right from the get go and they broke the deadlock in the 28th minute. Bukayo Saka assisted Gabriel Martinelli who scored for the 2nd consecutive Premier League game. Saka then scored one of his goals with an exquisite finish to make it 2-0. Granit Xhaka scored for the 2nd consecutive game to make it 3-0. Arsenal couldn’t keep a clean sheet as Jeffery Schlupp scored a scrappy goal from a corner. Saka scored his 2nd of the game to stop any sort of comeback from Palace.
The performance by Arsenal showed why they are top of the Premier League table. Now they have a break of 2 weeks as a much awaited league title is getting closer and closer. Mikel Arteta will be hoping that all of his players return from the international break fully fit. The last thing he needs right now is an injury to one of his key players. Right after the international break they have a difficult month of April where they will take on Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
