Araujo: ‘I’ll Return Like a Bull’

Ronald Araujo celebrated his fifth anniversary of making his FC Barcelona debut on October 6. The Uruguayan defender reflected on his time with the team and talked about his current injury recuperation as well as his goals for the upcoming campaign in an exclusive interview with Barça One.

Duty to Succeed

Playing for Barcelona carries high expectations, as Araujo noted when he said, “We play in a club where we are obliged to win titles.” The season is seen negatively when we don’t win any championships. Since we are Barça, winning trophies is a must. He acknowledged the difficulties of the previous campaign, pointing out that it was a period of learning, particularly for the team’s younger members. “It’s true that there are a lot of young players in this new endeavor. We took lessons from last season’s difficult periods.

Progress of Recovery

The center defender suffered an injury during the Copa América while playing for his country, which has kept him out of action since July 7. He did, however, provide some encouraging news on his recuperation: “I am happy to report that I am progressing very well.” I’ve learnt a lot, both mentally and physically, even if it hasn’t always been easy. The club is taken aback by my performance. He said, “I’m going to come back like a bull,” intending to do so in November following the impending international break.

Champions League Aspirations

Araujo did not back down from the team’s shared goal, despite Barcelona not having won the UEFA Champions League since 2015. “Winning the Champions League is everyone’s greatest ambition and the championship we haven’t yet achieved. I need that title as well, and I’ll stop at nothing to get it,” he said.

Leadership and Captaincy

When Araujo thought back on his captaincy, he was proud of the responsibility. “It is a privilege to be Barça’s captain. I sense my privilege. Although I am aware of the responsibilities involved, I feel well-prepared for it. I try to keep an eye on everything and make sure everyone is doing well since leadership comes naturally to me. To make sure the squad remains united, it’s important to pay attention both on and off the field, he said.

Accepting a New Task

Araujo admitted that he is happy with the current team even if he hasn’t had the opportunity to play with some of the new players. “A successful start is crucial in the lengthy La Liga season. I like the team and I know we have to work humble,” he continued.

Gazing Forward

Lastly, he touched on his friendship with Hansi Flick, the national team coach: “I’ve talked to him, and we feel good.” We talk about a range of subjects. “This season, winning titles is the challenge,” he said.

Barcelona supporters are looking forward to Ronald Araujo’s return and the unquestionable impact he will have on the team as he continues to heal.
