(Motorsports news) The 2023 season finale saw AlphaTauri prepare a major upgrade to the AT04’s floor. This upgrade was meant to be a research and development item for the 2024 car, but it is also anticipated to yield a “few tenths” in a final race against Williams for P7 in the constructors’ championship.

AlphaTauri claims to have revised the main floor body, as well as its edges and gates, “to improve the local load generation of the forward floor,” according to the FIA’s tech document, which was made public on Friday morning. It clarified: “A vane that creates extra local load is now included in the keel area above the t-tray. To allow for increased local load generation from that area of the floor, the mid-floor and “canoe” surfaces close to the plank have also undergone significant modification.

The floor edge wing’s forward portion has less camber to enhance flow quality to the rear, while the aft portion has more chords to generate more local load. Aston Martin has introduced a new rear wing with changes to the endplate, beam wing, and upper wing. “There are updated components, a modified front aspect, and a distinct wing tip treatment on the upper rear wing assembly. AlphaTauri clarified that there are two flap choices.

The endplate is intended to be more effective and function at various drag ranges, while the beam wing has been adjusted to perform in tandem with the modifications made to the main wing. Alfa Romeo, who introduced a new front wing with a reworked main plane and re-profiled flaps, is the third and last team to introduce new things to the F1 season finale. AlphaTauri’s goal of the new wing is to increase the car’s overall aerodynamic efficiency, which has been a problem for the Hinwil team.
