Álex Fernández Talks Cádiz CF Future

Throughout his eighth season split between La Liga and Segunda, Álex Fernández, a player and leader, is at the forefront of Cádiz CF and embodies the club’s ethos.  Following a humiliating 2-1 loss in Tenerife, the stakes are extremely high for the upcoming crucial encounter against Eibar, which is scheduled for March 31 at the Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium.

With 10 games left on the schedule and the possibility of more, the midfielder takes on the season’s finale head-on.  Fernández discussed his reunion with Álvaro Cervera, the club’s tenacity, and the future while analyzing the recent defeat in an interview with Onda Cero Cádiz.

Fernández is convinced that Cádiz CF’s hopes of being promoted are still very much alive.  “Despite appearances, we still have chances for everything,” he said.  Although he acknowledged a poor performance, he acknowledged that the team had high hopes going into the match against Tenerife.  “We didn’t read the game well, therefore we had a bad first half.  We played better offensively in the second half.  However, a counterattack put us behind again as soon as we leveled the score.  All things considered, we fell short of the necessary requirements.

Fernández was able to get back in touch with Cervera in Tenerife, who had been a big mentor to him while he was at Cádiz CF.  “He is like a footballing father to me; we hugged each other.”  Along with Rober (Perera), he has used me more than any other coach and has really brought out the best in me,” he remarked, reaffirming the close relationship.  “Cervera will always be a friend, and I’m here for anything he needs.”

The dynamics within the team have improved under Gaizka Garitano’s leadership.  “We are now a more robust unit, competing fiercely in every match apart from the one against Albacete,” Fernández said.  Achieving 50 points as quickly as feasible was the player’s stated objective.  “Everything is still possible and there are still a ton of games to play.  Our team is capable, and we want to take advantage of the more stable circumstances compared to the first half of the season.”

“Sometimes things go awry in football,” he said, praising the new coaching group under Paco Lopez.  “He has instilled a solid and competitive approach,” he continued, reflecting on Garitano’s influence.  The team has improved our cohesiveness as a unit, which is crucial in Segunda, by learning what it takes to compete.”

“I’m satisfied with my individual performance,” Fernández says.  “I think this is one of my greatest seasons and I feel terrific.  I can’t wait to make a valuable contribution to a formidable team and accomplish something noteworthy.”  “It feels special to play this many matches,” he said, expressing his satisfaction and ambition as he approaches the milestone of 270 official games for Cádiz CF.  I’m eager and thrilled for more.

He received an alluring offer from another team as the winter transfer window drew near.  “I had discussions with the club and the coach, who made it clear I was not leaving, and I accepted that,” he said.  His future is still up in the air because his contract is scheduled to expire on June 30.  “The president and I recently spoke, and they will back any choice I make.  It doesn’t worry me at the moment.  I feel at home here because I have the admiration of the supporters and the respect of the club.”
