(Cricket News) Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram has strongly criticized fast bowler Haris Rauf for opting out of the Test tour of Australia, citing workload concerns. The new chief selector, Wahab Riaz, had previously disclosed that Rauf withdrew from the Test series at the last minute to participate in the Big Bash League.

Akram issued a cautionary message, emphasizing that for Rauf to be considered among the contemporary greats of the game, he must effectively manage his workload and actively participate in Test matches. Addressing reporters, Akram acknowledged the controversies surrounding Rauf’s decision, stating, “That’s his decision. He’s a contracted player, so there’s a lot of controversies back home.”

The cricket legend highlighted the significance of Test cricket and the challenges it poses, stating, “Test is a big boy’s game at the end of the day. You’ve got to bowl eight-over spells.” Despite Rauf’s consistent presence in Pakistan’s white-ball format, particularly in T20s, he has only played one Test match to date. His limited involvement, a mere 13 overs bowled in the match against England last year, and his apparent lack of interest in the longer format have contributed to the perception that Rauf is primarily a white-ball specialist, despite his ability to bowl at speeds exceeding 150kmph.

Akram emphasized the contrasting demands of T20 and Test cricket, noting that the latter requires sustained effort over a more extended period. He underscored the importance of Test cricket in securing a lasting legacy in the sport, stating, “In T20, you bowl four overs and stand at fine leg. Piece of cake. Test cricket is a long race, and if you want to be remembered as a great of the game, that’s where Test cricket comes in.”
