Ackermann and van der Merwe to miss the T20 World Cup

(Cricket News) Netherlands will be without the services of their experienced guys, Colin Ackermann and Roelof van der Merwe at the ICC Men’s T20 WC 2024. Both the men will be busy with their county commitments and have made themselves unavailable for selection.

England’s county T20 competition, Vitality Blast will collide with the T20 World Cup in June. This has forced two of Netherland’s key players to choose between the domestic league, who are their primary employers and the national selection. Subsequently the two Dutch players have decided to be with their county sides instead of the national duty.

Daniel Doram, the left-arm spinner has received a maiden call-up to the national side for the global event. In Merwe’s absence, Doram will accompany Tom Pringle as the second left-arm spinner in the 15-member squad.

Two of the other Dutch players Bas de Leede (Durham) and Fred Klaassen (Kent) will be released by their counties for the T20 World Cup. Whereas in the case of Ackermann and Merwe, it was understood that they both have already committed to their respective counties.

“We have been able to select a well-balanced team, which we are confident will be able to perform in the conditions against the opposition we face in the US and West Indies,” Ryan Cook, the Netherlands head coach, said in a release. “All of the players have been training well and have been involved in the recent ProSeries with some exciting performances showing the growing depth and quality in Netherlands cricket.

“We have managed to perform admirably in the last two World Cups we have participated in and will be determined to rise to the challenges we face ahead to reach the next round of the tournament.”

The Netherland side, led by Scott Edwards will start their preparation for the world cup with a tri-series against Scotland and Ireland starting later this week. Netherland are placed alongside the likes of Bangladesh, Nepal, South Africa and Sri Lanka, in Group D of the T20 WC 2024.
