More than 42,000 Members and fans are expected to flood through the gates for the Scorchers’ annual Aboriginal match, which has become a staple of the Club’s Weber WBBL and KFC BBL fixtures.
Those attending can look forward to a spellbinding LED lightshow at the innings break, when Optus Stadium will be bathed in colourful hues.
The lightshow combines original drawings by Dr Richard Walley OAM, with narration and accompanying didgeridoo from Jayden Boundary, a Whadjak Ballardong Nyoongar and Badimaya Yamatji man.
Placing emphasis on respect, unity and the richness of culture and heritage, the lightshow highlights the Swan River and the symbiotic relationship between nature through Aboriginal storytelling.
Local Nyoongar Wongi rapper Inkabee and his father Flewnt will take the stage to bowl the ceremonial first ball of the match alongside the centre-wicket.
Twelve-year-old Inkabee (AKA Ethan Eggington) and Flewnt (Josh Eggington) took the world by storm last year when they made the quarterfinals on America’s Got Talent, putting their own spin on the hip-hop and rap genres.
The Aboriginal Match will also incorporate a live pre-game Welcome to Country and Barefoot Circle with players from both teams.
The Scorchers will proudly wear their Aboriginal Playing Shirt designed by Linda Loo, an artist born in Corrigin and connected to the Ballardong and Whadjuk clans of the Nyoongar nation.
Perth’s Aboriginal shirts will be auctioned, with all proceeds going to the WA Cricket Foundation. To place a bid before the auction closes at 9PM, Monday 6 January, click here.
