(Football news) The Toffees are looking to strengthen their squad in the final days of the transfer window as they look to buy replacements for Richarlison and Anthony Gordon who is being linked with a move away to Chelsea. After scoring one goal in their opening two league games, Everton are chasing some attacking targets as they close in on Ajax's Kudus. According to reports, Everton are in advanced talks to sign Kudus from Ajax.
The Dutch champions are open to selling a player who has found it tough to become a regular starter for Ajax. Kudus this season has come off the bench in all three of Ajax's competitive matches this season and he scored once in the club's 5-3 Dutch Super Cup defeat to PSV Eindhoven. He is an utility player who plays in the midfield and can also operate in the No.10 position. If he joins, he will become Everton's sixth summer signing after the additions of James Tarkowski, Dwight McNeil, Amadou Onana, Ruben Vinagre and Conor Coady on loan
Despite the Toffees pushing to sign Kudus, the deadline for him to feature in Saturday’s home game against Nottingham Forest has passed. Kudus should have been registered and approved by the Premier League before 12pm on Friday if he was to make his debut on Saturday. Everton will hope they get the deal done in time as they are hoping he could feature against Fleetwood Town next Tuesday in the second round of the Carabao Cup. A Premier League debut could come against Brentford away from home.
Kudus is rated as a top talent at Ajax but has struggled to nail down a regular spot in the starting XI. The Ghana international has started Ajax’s opening two games this season on the bench and it looks like the coach does not favour him having indicated they are willing to let him go ahead of the transfer deadline. He joined Ajax in the summer of 2020 and has since made 45 total appearances for the club, scoring six goals in those outings though only one of them came during the 2021-22 campaign. The attacker is a Ghana international and has made 16 appearances for his country, scoring five goals.
