(Football news) After 6 seasons with Burnley, James Tarkowski has parted ways with the club. His contract at Burnley has run out and there were never any signs of renewal after Burnley were relegated from the Premier League. Everton and Newcastle are among the two Premier League clubs interested in his services. Latest reports claim that Frank Lampard is really pushing for the player and Everton looks like the likely destination.
At Burnley, Tarkowski established himself as one of the best center backs in the league. He formed an incredible partnership with Ben Mee which was one of the major reasons for Burnley's success under Sean Dyche. Standing at 6"1' Tarkowski has a calm presence at the back and is a great passer of the ball. His qualities fit perfectly at Everton and it is exactly what the Toffees need. Once Burnley was relegated, Tarkowski's departure was pretty much confirmed. The defender is way too good to be playing in the Championship especially at this stage of his career where he is in his prime.
Everton escaped the jaws of relegation last season. Frank Lampard who was appointed in a clutch time managed to survive the drop. Next season, survival will not be enough as they will have to push for a finish in the top half. The current squad has center backs Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane. Adding Tarkowski to the group will be a very good move for the Merseyside club. Everton are in a bit of a financial crisis and to get a player of Tarkowski's caliber for free is a step in the right direction. The future of star player Richarlison is a big doubt going into the new season, therefore Everton need a couple more new signings.
