Nemanja Matic joins AS Roma on a free transfer

(Football news) Former Manchester United star Nemanja Matic has come to an agreement over a contract worth €6 million a year with Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma. The Serbian is likely to sign a contract for one season with the option of another year. The midfielder will be playing under Jose Mourinho for the third time in his career as he has accompanied him to Chelsea, Manchester United and now AS Roma.

In football it is quite rare to see a manager have so much trust in a player and take them along wherever they go. Harry Redknapp is particularly known for this when he expressed his love for Niko Kranjcar who he had signed multiple times. Jose Mourinho has been successful with this tactic since he signed for Chelsea in 2004, as he brought in a few of his trusted players from FC Porto and particularly maintained his trust in Ricardo Carvalho when  he signed the defender for Real Madrid and Chelsea. There could be a similar move on the cards, as Mourinho could be on course to bringing Nemanja Matic to the capital city.

Nemanja Matic is all set to be reunited with Mourinho for the third time, as the midfielder bid adieu to the Manchester United fans this season. Many Premier League clubs were interested in the Serbian, but he is likely to move out of England, with Italy looking like his probable destination. Roma along with Juventus have been eying a move for the central. However, playing under Mourinho again has seemingly enticed Matic towards joining the Italian capital club rather than move to Turin. Mourinho has been silent about the Matic links although recent personal terms between the club and the player have been agreed. Roma have made an offer of €6 million per year to the midfielder which he reportedly has accepted

The Serbian will most likely accept the offer, which is only for one season, but it has an option of  extending it by another year. For the 33 year old, it may be his last major contract before he retires. While it is a big investment in terms of salary for Roma, they can accommodate the wages since Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined Inter. He was signed by Manchester United for £40 million from Chelsea to play under Mourinho after impressing the manager during his second stint with them. The veteran Serb is now set to link up with the ‘Special One’ and hopefully get regular first time football.
