West Ham face Frankfurt for their first European final since 1965

(Football news) West Ham take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1st leg at the London Stadium as they bid to reach their first European final since 1965. Both the clubs domestic form has deteriorated, the Hammers sit in seventh position in the Premier League standings and Frankfurt find themselves in ninth place in the Bundesliga table. For West Ham, ensuring European football for next season is a must and was the goal at the start of the season and their most realistic chance of making it to the Champions League next season is by winning the Europa League. West Ham's chances have improved significantly now that Barcelona have now been eliminated but face a resurgent and spirited Eintracht Frankfurt side

Given the European experience of their previous opponents in the earlier rounds, West Ham were arguably underdogs to Sevilla and Lyon, although they performed like an established continental outfit in each of those ties. For Frankfurt, Oliver Glasner has not had the desired effect in the Bundesliga as they are currently 12 points adrift of the top five with seven matches remaining but his players have relished their tag of dark horses in the Europa League. Although their previous five matches have ended in draws but are undefeated in 10 matches in the Europa League. Frankfurt are no strangers to making visits to London, they recently lost to Chelsea in a penalty shootout at Stamford Bridge in the 2018-19 semi-finals before ending 2019 with a 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

West Ham United possible starting lineup:

Areola; Johnson, Dawson, Cresswell; Coufal, Soucek, Rice, Masuaku; Fornals, Bowen; Antonio

Eintracht Frankfurt possible starting lineup:

Trapp; Tuta, Hinteregger, Hasebe; Knauff, Sow, Rode, Kostic; Kamada, Lindstrom; Borre

The defending Scottish champions take on the German powerhouse RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena in the 1st leg. Leipzig are in fourth position in the Bundesliga standings as Rangers are in second place in the Scottish Premiership table behind their arch rivals Celtic. The Glasgow giants needed extra time to defeat the Portuguese side as Braga were eventually reduced to nine men during extra time in the second leg of the quarter-finals. Nevertheless, Rangers head into this match on the back of a terrific run as they are on a four-match winning streak, a run which includes a victory over Celtic in the Scottish Cup also, and subsequently they have scored 12 goals during those fixtures.

The trajectory for RB Leipzig skyrocketed since the appointment of Domenico Tedesco in December. He has won a total of 16 wins and just three defeats coming from 24 games, and they will have the chance of  ending the season with two trophies as the other potentially coming in the DFB Pokal. Securing a place in next season's Champions League is the number one priority for this club, however, and they hold just a two-point advantage over fifth-placed Freiburg after their recent defeat to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga. Since dropping out of the Champions league after the group stages, Leipzig have been very impressive, coming through ties against Real Sociedad and Atalanta BC quite comfortably.

RB Leipzig possible starting lineup:

Gulacsi; Mukiele, Klostermann, Gvardiol; Henrichs, Laimer, Adams, Angelino; Olmo; Nkunku, Silva

Rangers possible starting lineup:

McGregor; Tavernier, Goldson, Balogun, Bassey; Kamara, Lundstram, Jack; Aribo, Sakala, Kent
