(Football news) According to rumours Divock Origi is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer and hopefully join AC Milan in the summer. The report suggests Milan could soon finalise an agreement with Origi, with the player himself happy to  move to the San Siro in the summer. Liverpool can’t do anything to prevent the transfer as the striker’s current deal at Anfield expires at the end of the season.

Former Wolfsburg player, Origi has been on the radar of Milan for quite some time now. Although the Belgian has not been able to establish himself as a first-team for Liverpool, his cameos off the bench and ability to score goals in crunch situations have helped him earn quite a reputation for being a super-sub and has somewhat become a cult hero back at Merseyside. The Rossoneri plan to give the 26-year-old regular football, especially with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud currently in the final phases of their careers. The Serie A giants are also facing an uphill battle to keep hold of Rafael Leao, who has subsequently emerged as a potential target for Liverpool next season. 

The uncertain future of several of the Milan players and star players has accentuated the need for reinforcements in the goalscoring department for the Rossenari. Divock Origi fits the bill perfectly due to his vast experience playing for top clubs at the highest level of football. He is also a hard worker on the pitch who has a never give up attitude in him and can settle in seamlessly with Stefano Pioli’s tactical setup. While the majority of his career has gone operating as a super-sub under Jurgen Klopp, it is no secret that the Belgian has what it takes to start games for Milan due to his goal scoring abilities

At the age of just 26, the Liverpool forward has time on his side as well and the room to improve his skills as a goalscorer and even learn from the likes of Zlatan and Giroud who will be in the club for at least a year or so. What makes Origi such an appealing target for the Serie A heavyweights is his contract situation, signing him for a free transfer could be a bargain for a Milan side who are experiencing somewhat of a financial crisis and could be forced to tbe cost-effective this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan are pushing to sign the Belgian on a ‘multi-year’ deal worth around €4million (£3.3million) net per year, and they are hoping to close the deal during the current international break.
