WBBL weekend review: Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur and Poonam Yadav continue to stamp their authority

(Cricket news) Melbourne Renegades became the first team to cross the 200 run mark in this season's WBBL as they hit 207 against Brisbane Heat. Jemimah Rodrigues opened the batting and scored a 31 ball 52 hitting 10 boundaries in the process. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur continued her purple patch by scoring 65 off just 32 deliveries and hit 4 boundaries and 6 maximums to take her team past 200. She wasn't done there as she picked up 1 for 19 in her two overs to help the Renegades win by 15 runs.

 

After being dropped against the Renegades, Poonam Yadav returned for the Heat in the game against Sydney Thunder. Smriti Mandhana opened for the Thunder and scored an aggressive 37. She was dismissed by her Indian counterpart Poonam Yadav who also picked up Phoebe Litchfield and Corinne Hall in back to back balls to finish her 4 overs at 3/17. Deepti Sharma scored 12 runs and picked up 1 wicket for the Thunder as Brisbane Heat won the match by 5 wickets.

Harmanpreet Kaur again worked her magic against Melbourne Stars as she picked up 3/22 in the first innings to restrict the Stars to 103. Jemimah Rodrigues 45 off 38 made sure that the Renegades won the match comfortably. Rodrigues played a mature innings as she hit 6 boundaries. Harmanpreet Kaur once finished things off with a boundary 35 balls to spare. Hobart Hurricanes' Richa Ghosh back to back ducks in the back to back games against Perth Scorchers.

 

Half way through the tournament the Renegades pairing of Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur have been the best performing Indians. Kaur became the first Indian to complete 1000 WBBL runs. She is also the 4th highest scorer this season and has the best average despite batting lower down the order compared to other batters on the list.
