(Football news) The Bundesliga weekend got off to a blistering start after Bayern were back to their dominating best by defeating Union Berlin, Dortmund on the other hand maintained their 100% record at home by beating in form FC Koln, RB Leipzig suffered their third draw of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bayern, after getting thrashed by Mochengaldbach in the second round of the cup, came back in resounding fashion by winning 5-2 against Union Berlin. In the first half Robert Lewandowski fires Bayern ahead from the penalty spot after a handball, then he went onto score his 13th goal of the season with a wonderfully curled freekick to establish domination with the first half hour, Thomas Muller tapped Kingsely Coman’s cross to perfectly set it up for Leroy Sane who made it 3-0, although Union pulled back a goal from Giesselmann just before halftime. The story of the second half was similar as Bayern were at their ruthless best after Coman and Muller made it five goals to take their season tally of 38 goals for the season. Union scored a consolation goal through Kevin Beherns to restore parity to the scoreline.
With this result Bayern moved to 25 points, just a point ahead of Dortmund as Union Berlin dropped to sixth after making an amazing start to the season. Neuer said after the match, “Today we got the start we wanted before the game. The goals we conceded were annoying, of course, but overall we’re satisfied that we have now shown a different face”
Dino Toppmöller, assistant of Nagelsmann said “We are totally happy that we could show the desired reaction. We knew that the opponent is very strong at home, that it will not be easy for us with the audience. The first 30 minutes we had the game under control, then we invited the opponent to score the final goal. I think overall we can be satisfied with the performance”
Dortmund won comfortably 2-0 against FC Kon as they kept pace with Bundesliga leaders Bayern. Marco Rose’s side were missing more than half a dozen of players through injury including Erling Haaland. In the first half Dortmund captain Marco Reus squandered a couple of golden opportunities but Thorgan Hazard broke the deadlock after Jude Bellingham delivered a superb cross which was met by the on rushing Belgian. In the second half it was a similar story, although in form striker Anthony Modeste brought out a few good saves from Gregor Kobel but eventually Steffan Tigges added a second after scoring from a corner which evidently is his first goal for BVB. With this result Dortmund stayed second with 24 points from ten matches.
Dortmund coach Marco Rose said “Cologne made it really difficult for us to really get into the game, Cologne were the team that set the pace. They were the better team with the ball and so we are very happy with this win. We have a lot of injury absences so big compliment to the team that we have managed in this difficult phase to keep collecting points"
RB Leipzig drew 1-1 against Frankfurt after conceding a very late equaliser from Tuta. Yousef Poulsen had given Jesse Marsch’s side a much deserved lead in the 35th minute but eventually had to settle for a frustrating draw, with this result they dropped down to 8th in the table with 15 points. Wolfsburg snapped their 4 match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen as new head Florian Kohfedlt made a lot of changes to his lineup, goals from Lukas Nimecha and Max Arnold helped them go just a point behind Leverkusen with 16 points.
