(Football news) Neymar hinted to the fact that next year's World Cup in Qatar could be his last tournament for Brazil. The 29 year old also went on to say that he is not sure whether he can mentally endure so much football at one go. Neymar has gone onto represent his country in two World Cups so far and is 8 goals away from becoming Brazil’s outright highest goal scorer overtaking the great Pele.

Over the years, Neymar has become a cornerstone for the Brazilian national team as in 2014 he suffered a back injury against Columbia ruling him out of the all important semi final clash against Germany, where his side without him endured a embarrassing 7-1 loss to them. Four years later in 2018 the Brazilian side lost to Belgium in the quarterfinals 2-1, where he received a lot of backlash and criticism for his unimpressive performance in the 2018 World Cup. Although Neymar has two gold medals along with a Confederations cup and a Copa America trophy, a lot of onus falls on him to carry the legacy of the great Brazilian players as this hampers his individual performance on the pitch.

Against Peru, Neymar overtook Romario as Brazil's top goal scorer in FIFA World Cup qualifiers with 12 goals, along with that he has scored 69 goals in 114 caps for Brazil. This decision is also based on the recent injury record, he has missed out several games through a ruptured ankle not only for Brazil but for PSG as well.

The comments by the 29-year-old striker were made in the documentary "Neymar & The Line Of Kings," produced by DAZN. Neymar said, “Man, I think it will be my last World Cup. I am facing it like the last World Cup because I don't know whether I will be able to, mentally, endure more soccer. I will do everything possible to get there very well. I will do all I can to win it with my country and realize my dream, the biggest since my boyhood,"

Selecao coach Tite was questioned about Neymar’s poor performance against Columbia, which included seventeen missed passes and thirty losses of possession  Tite said. “He is an exceptional player because he makes exceptional plays, he does it exceptionally and not ordinarily, He is a special player, we know it. And he was also well marked, sometimes by two players.”

Neymar now would be hoping to bow out from the Brazilian national team with the World Cup next year as this fulfills his as well as his country's 20 year long wait for World Cup glory.
