(Cricket news) The England and Wales Cricket Board has issued the following statement regarding their travel to Australia for the 2021-2022 Ashes.
"Over recent weeks we have made excellent progress in moving forward on the England Men's Ashes Tour.
"To facilitate further progress and allow a squad to be selected, the ECB Board has met today and given its approval for the tour to go ahead. This decision is subject to several critical conditions being met before we travel.
"We look forward to the ongoing assistance from Cricket Australia in resolving these matters in the coming days."
England have not won in Australia since 2010-2011 and are set to miss out on several players on the tour. Jofra Archer has a long-term elbow problem and is ruled out of the series while Ben Stokes has recently undergone finger surgery while Moeen Ali retired from Test cricket last month.
The announcement by ECB is a significant boost for Cricket Australia who expect about AU$200m in broadcast revenue. England women are also due to contest at the Ashes this winter with a tour set to take place in January-February.
