(Olympics news) Olympic 2021 Live Update: Fouaad Mirza, India’s 29 year old equestrian from Bangalore made history on Monday (2nd August) by becoming the first Indian to reach the final of the event in the Olympic Games. Earlier in the day, the duo of Fouaad Mirza and his equine Seigneur Medicott managed to finish in the top 25 to progress into the Jumping Final in which he incurred 12.40 penalty points for an overall score of 59.60, which included points from the qualifying events of dressage, cross country and jumping.

Mirza is the first Indian equestrian to participate in the Olympic Games since Imtiaz Anees in Sydney 2000. Apart from the two, Late Wing Commander IJ Lamba (Atlanta 1996) is the only other Indian to have represented the country in equestrian at the Olympic Games. Julia Krajewski from Germany won the gold medal in the event, becoming the only female Olympic champion in eventing history, Tom McEwen from Great Britain finished in second place and  Andrew Hoy from Australia finished third.
