Sunrisers Hyderabad looking at every possibility to qualify for playoffs in Indian Premier League

(Cricket news) Sunrisers Hyderabad finally recorded a victory as they defeated Rajasthan Royals after a five match losing streak. Sunrisers are at the bottom of the table with four points in ten matches. They have only won one match so far in the second phase at UAE and two overall.

Sunrisers have managed to record at least six victories ever since their debut at IPL in 2013. They have four matches and need to win all of them to at least have a chance to qualify for the playoffs. Even if they win all of the remaining matches, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings would have to lose all but three matches as said statsman Deepu Narayanan.

Sunrisers haven’t been able to perform in the batting and bowling departments as Rashid Khan has been the player who has stood out. In the bowling part, Rashid Khan has taken 13 wickets in ten matches and has the best economy rate in the top 15 wicket takers but he is the only bowler to take more than 10 wickets in the team. Jason Holder has six wickets which is the second best for the team as former orange cap holder Bhuvaneshwar Kumar has five wickets in eight matches.

The batting department has seen two batsmen cross the 200 run mark, Manish Pandey is currently the only one as Jonny Bairstow has pulled out of the second phase. Manish, Kane Williamson and David Warner have scored two fifties each but have not been able to bail out the team this time. Warner was dropped in the match against Rajasthan Royals and had commented in instagram while replying to a fan saying he won’t be seen again raising doubts over his place in the remaining matches.

In the second phase so far, Rashid Khan has been the best performer in the side as he has given away only 74 runs in three matches while taking a wicket in each match. With the latest inclusion of Jason Roy who top scored in their last match with a 42 ball 60 will look to lead the batting line up along with Williamson and Manish. Jason Holder scored 47 not out from 29 balls with five sixes against Punjab Kings as the team fell short of five runs in a low scoring contest.

The Sunrisers will next play their match against table toppers Chennai Super Kings on 30th September as a defeat will make it almost impossible to make it to the playoffs. Umran Malik has been named as a short term replacement for Thangarasu Natarajan who had tested positive for Covid last week making things even more difficult. Sunrisers finished 6th in 2014, 2015 and will try to make sure they don’t create a new low this year.
