Sergio Aguero, Manchester City FC’s all time record goalscorer will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. The 32 year old has enjoyed a successful stint at City, winning four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and five League Cups, having scored at least 28 goals in all competitions in six straight seasons. Amongst his 257 goals in 384 appearances, Aguero scored a dramatic winner against Queens Park Rangers to secure Manchester City’s first title in 44 years. He is also the Premier League’s all time highest scoring overseas player and has an impressive 12 hat tricks to his name. However, the Argentine has struggled with injuries since the past year, registering just 14 appearances in all competitions. Since the announcement, Manchester City’s club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has said that a statue of Aguero has been commissioned alongside the player’s former teammates David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City are currently challenging for the quadruple this season, being 14 points ahead in the Premier League, finals of the League Cup, quarterfinals in the Champions League and semifinals of the FA Cup. Aguero has been strongly linked to a move with FC Barcelona with the cash strapped Catalan side keen to finally replace Luis Suarez with another South American who can link with his countryman Lionel Messi. At 32, Sergio Aguero might still have a few years left in him at the top level and a free transfer might be exactly what Barcelona needs to not just fix their goal scoring woes but also convince Messi to stay on beyond the season.
