Akash Deep Set to Join LSG Squad, Likely Available for MI Clash

Fast bowler Akash Deep is set to link up with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad on Wednesday and is expected to be available for their upcoming match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday.

Akash has been out of action since December 2024 due to a lower back injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He is yet to make his debut for LSG, having last played T20 cricket in IPL 2024, where he featured in a single match for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against MI at the Wankhede Stadium. Since his IPL debut in 2022, he has played eight matches for RCB, claiming seven wickets.

His return comes as a boost to LSG’s injury-hit bowling attack. Mayank Yadav, recovering from a lumbar stress injury, recently suffered a toe injury, while Mohsin Khan has been ruled out of IPL 2025 after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) last December. LSG’s pace unit currently includes Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan, with Prince Yadav also featuring in their first two games.

Akash, who was signed by LSG for INR 8 crore at the mega auction, has taken 49 wickets in 42 T20s. LSG, having won just one of their first three matches this season, will be hoping for a stronger showing with his addition.
