(Football news) The 17-year-old made the move to Manchester United from Watford last year, and he has featured on 17 occasions for the club’s Under-18s, while he has turned out on nine occasions for Man United Under-23s in Premier League 2.
Amass was a part of the first-team squad that travelled to the United States over the summer for a pre-season tour, and he has been on the bench for two of the club’s last three Premier League matches.
The teenager is still waiting to make his competitive debut for the 20-time English champions, though, despite the Red Devils again having issues at left-back in the opening months of the campaign.
Amass has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2027, but according to multiple reports, Villa are keeping a close eye on his situation, with Unai Emery’s side considering making an offer next year.
Villa ‘interested in Manchester United teenager Amass’
The report claims that the Champions League outfit are long-term admirers of Amass, with the club competing for his signature in 2023, but Man United ultimately won the race.
Amass is highly rated by Manchester United, but Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are now back to fitness, which will make it even more difficult for the youngster to break into the first team.
The Red Devils are said to be planning to sign a new left-back next year, meanwhile, and Villa are believed to be confident that they can take advantage of the situation to bring him to Villa Park.
Ruben Amorim’s arrival as the new head coach may help Amass, though, with the Portuguese expected to play a 3-4-3 formation, with the teenager appearing to have the perfect skill set for a wingback role.
“Big, big offer” required to sign Amass?
Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson has said that it will take “a big, big offer” from Villa for Manchester United to consider letting Amass leave considering his potential.
“We know Aston Villa are an ambitious club,” he told. They’re always looking to progress under Unai Emery, and they’ve got a very good recruitment team behind him at Villa Park.
“It doesn’t come as a surprise that they’re interested and have been keeping tabs on Amass. Amass will be questioning whether his pathway to first-team football could be blocked at Old Trafford.
“I don’t see United looking to sell him unless they receive a big offer from Villa. They see him as their long-term left-back option, and Ruben Amorim will want to have a look at him and could hand him his chance. He’s well-equipped for that wingback role, so I’d be very surprised if they were open to selling him.”
Amass will be hoping to be a part of Amorim’s squad for Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Ipswich Town on November 24.
