Harry Brook has been appointed captain for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia, and he is going to lead England for the first time in his career. Following Jos Buttler’s injury, which has prevented him from playing in the five-match series, Brook was picked as the captain.

Not only was Buttler left off of the T20I squad, but he is still recovering from his earlier calf injury. Liam Livingstone, who was previously ignored, can now return to the ODI lineup thanks to Buttler’s injury. Aside from scoring 87 off just 47 balls in the second T20I, the dashing all-rounder has been rewarded for taking five wickets in the recent T20I series.

Buttler now needs to aim to get back into the team for their Caribbean tour in November. He hasn’t played since the T20 World Cup semifinal against India in late July. During the Test series against Sri Lanka, Brook, who captained England in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, filled in for Ollie Pope in the absence of Ben Stokes.

Josh Hull, the young pacer who made his debut for his country in the last Test match against Sri Lanka, has been removed from the team due to a quad injury, according to a confirmation from the ECB. Trent Bridge will host the opening match of the ODI series on September 19.

The ODI series will present both the teams with great opportunity, to play against the best and prepare ahead of the big ICC Champions Trophy early next year. Having won the 50-over World Cup last year, Australia will target to double their tally, winning two 50-over titles in less than 2 years. While England on the other hand will focus on revenging their disappointments in India last year.
