Samit Dravid an all-rounder and the son of India’s world cup-winning coach Rahul Dravid has received his maiden call-up to the Indian U19 side for their upcoming home series against Australia. Dravid has been picked up for both One-day and multi-day series at home.
Soham Patwardhan of Madhya Pradesh will captain the side for the four-day matches, while Mohamed Amaan, an Uttar Pradesh middle-order batter, has been selected skipper of the 50-over squad.
Samit Dravid was seen recently featuring in his first senior tournament, the KSCA Maharaja T20 Trophy in Karnataka, where he is a part of the Mysore Warriors squad. The Warriors are due to play their semi-finals today (Saturday, 31st August) against the Hubli Tigers. Though he wasn’t asked to bowl his medium pace, Dravid accumulated 82 runs at a strike rate of 114 in seven innings while batting in the middle order.
Dravid, 18, was a key player in Karnataka’s victory earlier this year in the Cooch Behar Trophy, a four-day cricket competition for under-19 players. In eight games, he amassed 362 runs and 16 wickets, including two against Mumbai in the championship final.
September 21, 23, and 26 will see three 50-over matches between India Under-19 and Australia Under-19 in Puducherry. On September 30 and October 7, two four-day matches will take place in Chennai.
