Josh Hazlewood ruled out of T20s against Scotland

The 28-year-old fast bowler Meredith, replacing Hazlewood, will have the chance to increase his five T20I caps during the tour

Josh Hazlewood, an Australian bowler, will not play in the forthcoming Twenty20 International series against Scotland. After experiencing a mild strain to his right calf during a Sydney training session, Riley Meredith has taken the 33-year-old’s position in the squad.

Hazlewood will go under rehabilitation and is likely to get fit and return for the big T20I and ODI series against the mighty England, which begins on September 11, according to Cricket Australia.

The 28-year-old fast bowler Meredith will have the chance to increase his five T20I caps during the tour. Meredith hasn’t played for Australia since 2021. By coincidence, he has been very successful in the T20 Blast, taking 14 wickets in 12 games while playing for Somerset.

With Pat Cummins rested to concentrate on the forthcoming Test series against India and Mitchell Starc already ruled out, Australia’s fast bowling problems throughout the tour are made worse by Hazlewood’s injury.

The 3-match T20I series between Scotland and Australia is set to begin on the 4th of September in Edinburgh, which will followed by games on the 6th of September and the 7th of September. Following the series, Australia would be gearing up for the big whit-ball series against their arch-rivals England. The series will consist of 3 T20Is, followed by 5 ODIs, providing both teams with the perfect stage for their Champions trophy preparations.

Australia T20I squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Riley Meredith, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa
