(Football news) After spending an initial €6.5 million (£5.5 million) to join French club Troyes from Atletico Mineiro in 2022, the 20-year-old became a member of the City Football Group (CFG).
Savio, commonly known as Savinho, has not yet appeared on the field for Troyes because he has played on loan for PSV Eindhoven and Girona during the past two seasons. Girona is another CFG team that made waves in Spain in 2023–2024.
In fact, the winger reached new heights in La Liga, tallying nine goals and dished out ten assists in 37 league contests to aid Girona in securing an unexpected top-three finish and a Champions League berth for the next season.
Savio’s impressive form for Girona was rewarded with his first senior international cap for Brazil in March before representing his country at the 2024 Copa America, featuring in all four games before the Selecao were knocked out in the quarter-finals.
Since the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign, speculation over Savio’s club future has been rife, with multiple reports claiming that Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign the winger from sister club Troyes.
Man City to announce Savio signing on Wednesday?
A report earlier this month from journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that all the paperwork for Savio’s proposed arrival at the Etihad Stadium has already been completed, with an agreement reached for the winger to join Manchester City after the Copa America.
With Savio’s spell away on international duty having now ended, Spanish news outlet Sport claims that the Brazilian will be presented as Manchester City’s first official summer signing on Wednesday.
The report adds that Savio has chosen to join Man City as he is confident that he will not only develop into a better player under manager Pep Guardiola, but also earn regular call-ups for Brazil.
Savio flying to Manchester?
Savio has hinted that a move to Manchester is imminent as he took to Instagram on Tuesday morning (BST) to post a story of himself sitting in a plane at an airport in an unknown location, presumably in Brazil.
It remains to be seen whether Savio will link up with Guardiola’s squad for their pre-season tour of the United States should he be unveiled as a new Man City player on Wednesday, with their first friendly match against Celtic to be played on July 24.
The Citizens are seemingly beginning to make moves in the transfer market as they are also reportedly closing in on the £51m signing of RB Leipzig attacker Dani Olmo.
