Chameera replaces Atkinson at KKR for IPL 2024

(Cricket news) Dushmantha Chameera the Sri-Lankan pacer has been signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as the replacement for Gus Atkinson for the IPL 2024. Atkinson has pulled out from the IPL, with ECB managing his schedule.

Gus Atkinson was picked up by KKR at the base price of INR 1 crore in the IPL auction last year. He was due to play in the IPL for the first time, but he has now withdrawn from the tournament. He was a part of the England 50-over World Cup squad in India and played three games for his country and is currently the part of the England red-ball squad for their ongoing series in India.

Chameera who went unsold in auction will now join KKR for his base price of INR 50 Lakhs. He has previously been a part of three other franchises in the IPL, which includes Rajasthan Royals, RCB and LSG. He was also a part of Dubai Capitals in the recently concluded ILT20.

Chameera has played a total of 12 IPL games till now and has claimed 9 wickets, at an economy of nearly 9. He will now work alongside Mitchell Starc who is the only foreign pacer in the KKR set-up.

The IPL 2024 is most likely to kick-off in the third week of March. Ahead of the T20 World Cup in June, the IPL will provide a great platform to all the players to prepare for the global event and also put forward their case for a reckoning in their national side’s world cup squads.
