Arsenal will play Burnley in Premier League

After defeating Burnley by six goals six days earlier, Arsenal will look to extend their unblemished Premier League record in 2024 when they play them in Lancashire on Saturday

(Football news) Gameweek 24 saw Arsenal destroy London rivals West Ham United 6-0, while the Clarets’ trip to league leaders Liverpool resulted in a 3-1 loss.

While wearing the sky blue uniform, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany may have assisted Manchester City in winning numerous trophies, but he was unable to do his old team another favor at Anfield, where Liverpool easily reclaimed first place from the Premier League winners on Saturday.

Burnley’s surprise went into halftime on level terms thanks to Dara O’Shea’s aerial reaction to a Diogo Jota opening in front of the largest-ever crowd to pack Anfield for a Premier League match. However, the Clarets were unable to respond to headers from Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez in the second half.

Still waiting for their inaugural victory of 2024, 19th-placed Burnley are now only clear of basement side Sheffield United on goal difference thanks to the Blades’ surprise win at Luton Town last weekend, and the gap to the 17th-placed Hatters – who have played a game fewer – stands at seven points.

Nunez’s insurance goal for Liverpool last weekend also represented the 50th that the leaky Clarets have shipped in the ongoing Premier League season – conceding at an average of just over two per game in their first season back in the top flight – although scoring in five successive Premier League contests offers the Clarets a miniscule glimmer of hope.

Furthermore, after enduring a harrowing seven-game losing run at Turf Moor since the season began, Kompany’s men have now taken points from three of their last five matches in front of their own fans, holding Luton and Fulham to respectable score draws at their Lancashire headquarters.

If Arsenal’s most recent away day is any indication, however, those figures might be moot since Arteta orchestrated the team’s greatest away league victory to date—as well as their joint-largest in league history—over the weak West Ham.

Arsenal destroyed the Europa Conference League winners once first blood was drawn, as Bukayo Saka (two), Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Magalhaes also scored before Declan Rice scored the best goal of the game with an incredible long-range effort at his old home. This was despite having to wait more than thirty minutes for William Saliba to break the deadlock.
